In Their Own Words

SW

Somchai Wattanapruk

Managing Director, Bangkok

"We engaged Quillwood for a strategic review during a period when several different directions looked plausible and none looked clearly right. The document they delivered did not tell us what to do, which I had half expected. Instead it helped us understand what we were actually deciding — which turned out to be a different question from the one we had been asking."

Natnicha Pongpanich

Co-Owner, Trading Company

"Our family had been circling a conversation about ownership and roles for longer than I am comfortable admitting. What Quillwood did was create conditions where people felt safe saying what they actually thought. The meetings were sometimes uncomfortable, but they were productive. We came out with arrangements that everyone can live with and a much clearer picture of where we stand."

Thomas Kreutzer

CEO, Regional Logistics Firm

"I commissioned a written briefing before a significant acquisition decision. What I received was considerably more useful than the management summary our bank had prepared — it covered angles I had not considered and was honest about areas of genuine uncertainty. I shared it with two board members. I would use this kind of engagement again."

Apirak Visutipat

Chairman, Manufacturing Group

"Jonathan stayed personally involved throughout. The quality of the written review was noticeably higher than what I had seen from larger firms — clear, structured, and honest about what remained uncertain. The eight-week pace, which I had initially thought slow, turned out to allow conversations among our leadership team between sessions that shaped the final document considerably."

Sunisa Leksakulchai

Director, Professional Services Firm

"The family business facilitation was genuinely difficult at times — that is the nature of these conversations. Patcharin handled the individual sessions with considerable sensitivity. The difference between the conversation we started with and the one we were having by the third group session was marked. I would not have believed we could get there without outside help."

Marcus Whitfield

Regional Director, Financial Services

"We needed a clear, written analysis of a regulatory change that had strategic implications we were still working through. The briefing document was delivered promptly, structured intelligibly, and honest about where the situation remained genuinely unclear. It made a board conversation considerably more productive than it would otherwise have been."

Selected Engagement Accounts

The following accounts describe actual engagement types, with identifying details altered to preserve confidentiality.

The Challenge

Strategy in a market contracting around the business

A mid-sized Bangkok trading company had grown steadily over fifteen years but noticed margins narrowing and key clients consolidating with fewer suppliers. Leadership knew change was needed but found it difficult to look at the situation clearly from inside it.

The Engagement

A Considered Strategic Review over eight weeks, working with the MD and two senior managers. The three sessions examined market context, the firm's actual capabilities versus its assumed ones, and the implicit choices built into its current operating model.

The Outcome

The written review helped leadership articulate a direction they had been moving toward without having fully committed to it. Within six months, two marginal product lines had been discontinued and a concentrated push into higher-value accounts was underway. The MD described the review as "a mirror that was uncomfortable to look into but useful."

The Challenge

Succession without agreement on what succession meant

A family-owned manufacturing business was approaching the point at which the founder's three children would need to take on formal leadership roles. Each had a different understanding of what that meant, and no one had found a way to discuss it directly.

The Engagement

Family Business Conversations over five weeks. The adviser met individually with each sibling and the founder before any group session. Four group sessions followed, with a Thai-language summary provided alongside the English-language document.

The Outcome

The family reached a working arrangement — not without disagreement along the way — that clarified roles, established a forum for ongoing ownership discussions, and removed several points of ambiguity that had been producing low-level friction for years. The founder noted that the written summary had been referenced in a board meeting three months later.

The Challenge

A significant acquisition needed clearer analysis before proceeding

A regional firm's board was considering acquiring a smaller competitor. Internal views were divided. The commercial logic was plausible but imprecise, and no one had systematically examined the arguments against.

The Engagement

A Written Briefing over two and a half weeks, focused specifically on the acquisition rationale — examining what the supporting arguments assumed, what the risks were if those assumptions failed, and what the alternatives to the acquisition might accomplish.

The Outcome

The board proceeded with the acquisition but adjusted the terms and negotiated additional protections that the briefing had identified as warranted. The CEO described the document as "the most useful thing anyone gave us before the decision." The acquisition closed without the integration difficulties the briefing had flagged as the principal risk.
